Inscription of "Ceremony of Mehregan" on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
During the 19th session of the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (19.COM) in Asunción, Paraguay, on December 2024 "Ceremony of Mehregan" was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The "Ceremony of Mehregan" file, which was prepared in collaboration with Mana Naqsh Heritage Institute, has been submitted to UNESCO for world inscription by Iran and Tajikistan.
"Ceremony of Mehregan" which was jointly submitted by the states parties of Iran and Tajikistan to UNESCO, was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at the 19th session of the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (19.COM) in Asunción, Paraguay, which was held from Monday 2 to Saturday 7 December 2024. The preparation of this file was done under the management of Dr Alireza Hassanzadeh, the Chair of the Anthropological Research Centre for the Iranian Research Institute of Cultural Heritage & Tourism (RICHT) and in collaboration with Mana Naqsh Heritage Institute for Art & Culture.
In this annual session, with the approval of the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, sixty-one elements were inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Out of these sixty-one inscribed elements, two files of "Art of Crafting and Playing Rubab/Rabab" and "Ceremony of Mehregan" were jointly submitted by Iran and the countries of the same region.
