Inscription of "Crafting and Playing the Oud" on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
During the 17th session of the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (17.COM) in Rabat, Morocco, on November and December 2022 "Crafting and Playing the Oud" was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The "Crafting and Playing the Oud" file, which was prepared in collaboration with Mana Naqsh Heritage Institute, has been submitted to UNESCO for world inscription by Iran and Syria.
"Crafting and Playing the Oud" was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at the 17th session of the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (17.COM) in Rabat, Morocco, which was held from 28 November to 3 December 2022. The file "Crafting and Playing the Oud", which was prepared in collaboration with Mana Naqsh Heritage Institute for Art & Culture, was jointly submitted by the states parties of Iran and Syria to UNESCO for world inscription.
In this annual session, out of forty-six files nominated for world inscription, with the approval of the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, thirty-nine elements were inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Out of these thirty-nine inscribed elements, four files of "Crafting and Playing the Oud", "Yaldā/Chella", "Turkmen-style Needlework Art", and "Sericulture and Traditional Production of Silk for Weaving" were jointly submitted by Iran and the countries of the same region.
